Verified Speed on CU Guest

We connected to the CU Guest network on campus and ran two Ookla speed tests on 2026-06-03 — both from the Marine Street Science Center, one at the edge of coverage and one directly under a wireless access point. Same network, same building; the only variable was distance to the access point:

CU Guest speedtest near the access point — 86.74 down / 93.22 up Mbps, 6 ms ping

Under the access point: 86.74 Mbps down / 93.22 up, 6 ms ping — plenty for video calls and large downloads.

CU Guest speedtest at the edge of coverage — 35.17 down / 27.40 up Mbps, 5 ms ping

At the edge of coverage: 35.17 Mbps down / 27.40 up, 5 ms ping — still carried Teams video calls over VPN reliably all week. The lesson for any CU building, Norlin included: sit near a visible access point or in a common area for the best throughput. Ping stays low either way.
