CU Boulder Off-Campus WiFi Guide

Living off campus at CU Boulder? Here's how to stay connected — whether you're looking for free WiFi hotspots around town or trying to set up home internet in your apartment.

CU Campus WiFi (Still Available to Students)

Even if you live off campus, your CU credentials give you access to campus WiFi networks whenever you're on campus:

  • Ralphie — primary student WiFi network on campus
  • eduroam — works at CU and any other eduroam-participating institution worldwide
  • Norlin Library — best campus spot for long study sessions, solid WiFi throughout

Off-Campus Free WiFi

Boulder Public Library

The Boulder Public Library on Canyon Blvd is free, fast, and open to everyone — no library card needed for WiFi. It's a 10-minute walk or bike ride from the Hill.

Pearl Street Mall

The Pearl Street Mall has free city WiFi (ConnectBoulder network) along the pedestrian zone. Good for a quick task, not reliable enough for heavy work.

Near the Hill

These spots near campus are popular with CU students:

Setting Up Home Internet in Your Apartment

Most off-campus housing near CU is served by Xfinity. If you're sharing an apartment, splitting an Xfinity plan is usually the most cost-effective option.

For solo renters or short-term leases: T-Mobile Home Internet is worth considering — no installation appointment, no contract, and you can take the gateway with you when you move.

Tips for Students

  • Get a Boulder library card — free, and gives you access to digital resources in addition to WiFi
  • Eduroam works everywhere — if you travel, your CU credentials work at participating universities worldwide
  • Don't rely on coffeeshop WiFi for exams — too much variability; use the library for high-stakes work
